As a school kid, I used to visit Indian Red Cross's Thalassemia Center with my parents.  Thalassemia is a blood disorders that are inherited and characterized by the abnormal productions of hemoglobin. Typical Thalassemic kids require blood transfusions few times a year to survive.

I used to be part of art therapy and other celebrations on World Thalassemia Day at Red Cross. Dr Ramanand, a well known Thalassemia Specialist is part of the Red Cross Center. 

 

As I was looking to define focus of my extended essay for the IB Diploma, thalassemia seemed to be a good subject.
